66 Devotional Resources

Scripture study is one of the areas that the internet provides the most benefit for with regards to the Christian life. Tim, over at Plaid Blog has provided a list of 66 Scripture-Study Resources. Check it out here: link

Reaching Out Online

The tech-ministry discussion has driven me to follow through with an idea I’ve had lately: a community-oriented blog called Blog!Uptown. You can find it here: http://uptown.harmonygreenville.com. It’s going to be about everything Uptown. Even if you don’t reside in the Greenville area, check it out and apply the method/strategy to your area. I think it’s going to be a cool outreach, if nothing else to let people know that we care about the community.

Geek Church

After reading Bobby Gruenwald’s post on the opportunity we have on the internet with regards to reaching people, a thought I’ve had for a while popped into my head:

What would an online faith community (would it be a church?) look like that is geared towards geeks and designers? You know, those of us who understand AJAX, CSS, and who use Digg and del.icio.us religiously. What would a web-hub look like that reached out to techies? What gave me this idea? This presentation of Genesis 1:

God’s BASH History File

What if we were to present the Gospel in a similar manner?

Using the iPod to Teach

Todd McKeever (link) requested more information on my previous post, Redeeming Technology For Everyday Gospel Teaching, so here the steps are:

  1. Prepare your Powerpoint slides as normal.
  2. When finished with the presentation, click on File>Save As, and save them as .JPG files. Be sure to export every slide as a JPG. This will save your slides in an image format recognizable by the iPod.
  3. Open up iTunes, and either enable disk use on your iPod and manually copy the images to the pod, or place your presentation slide images into the folder that syncs with your iPod’s photos.
  4. Use a cable like this one (link) to plug your iPod directly into a TVa.
  5. Under the Slideshow settings of your iPod, be sure to enable TV Out (either Ask or On). You can also adjust the timing and transitions here as well.
  6. Go to your slideshow photos, select one, and press “play” on your iPod. This puts your iPod into slideshow mode.
  7. Use the forward and back buttons on the iPod to navigate your slides. They will display on the TV.

Play around with it, you can also play music in the background of your presentations too. I am using an iPod video, and as such, am able to set up a mixed-media playlist (audio and video) that I will run through the television set for display to the group. We will be watching a couple of short films and listening to a couple of “secular” songs, and practicing cultural redemption in regard to those. If you’d like my powerpoint and the audio/video files I’m using, please feel free to comment and/or email!
