Amen! I have watched this show for awhile with my wife and never really paid attention to this fact. I just thought that Kate was overbearing and a little mean. But after reading this, I have realized that you are dead on in your post. This happens far too often in marriages in this nation and it needs attention.

I feel sorry for them as a husband and a parent. Not just for the kids, but for them as well. There is a love that has been overlooked because of the pressures of what their life has placed on them. I wish so much that they could read this.

Hi Derek -

Long time, no see :) Doug and I think of the church fondly and often - hope all are well!

I feel similarly. Jon and Kate continued to share how their kids are #1. Though I admire that they take their parental duties seriously, I think that they have allowed their marriage to become towards the bottom of their "list" - 1.) kids, 2.) tv show, 3.) book deals, signings, and other media junkets to make money, 4.) maintaining an image....

I think that this dissolved marriage also shows the power of money and greed. They did the show to provide for their kids. I am sure that their children were much happier in their middle-class home where they had loving parents than this multi-million dollar compound with apathetic parents.

I can empathize with wanting to provide for your family, but nothing should replace the love that should be the top priority - love for God, love for the marriage, and love for the family - in that order.

Kids who have parents that are in love are happier than kids who have parents that place them as paramount in their lives. I think it's unhealthy.

Best, April

Great post sir! I have been thinking the same thing for about 6 months now. The whole "I'm doing this for the kids" mentality is killing America! Thanks for the post...
