Let’s get something straight. Humanity has not “evolved” morally. We have simply shifted our prejudice. Yes, I’m thankful that an African-American has been elected and I think Obama has great potential. But at the end of the day, America is no more closer to righteousness than we were in the 1960s or even the 1860s. We’re just broken in less obvious, and therefore more dangerous, ways.
As for President Obama, let us rally behind him and pray that he would lead this country wisely. Most importantly, however, let us not hope in him…let us as Christ-followers hope for him. Let us hope that Jesus would use him as an earthly instrument for Kingdom progress and Jesus-exaltation.
