18 Days and Counting

One day closer…here’s some thoughts.

  • Today’s meeting with Jeremy, from Dr. Unk’s Oasis went well. We’re getting everything we need…at no cost to us! It’s truly the favor of Christ! We start in 18 days, and he’s just as ready as we are.
  • Looking forward to tomorrow’s meeting with Pastor H.
  • Time to start running off the advertising stuff! We’ve got some great flyers going out, along with some pretty nifty invite cards.
  • I sent out a survey getting information about who from our core will be there, and who is willing to volunteer. Getting a great response so far!
  • I want to just make a note here…we are planting a church on less than $5,000: it’s truly the hand of God. If we’re successful…what’s stopping you?
  • The next two and a half weeks are going to be agonizing. I’m so impatient.

Oh well.

It’s Not Bad

The idea for my next book is a simple one: a culture of dissatisfaction is healthy. At first glance, this seems counter-intuitive. If people are dissatisfied, reasoning goes, then people are unhappy. Not true. Dissatisfaction and unhappiness are not directly related. Dissatisfaction is more similar to a holy discontent. In fact, dissatisfaction is the only thing that leads to excellence. Satisfaction in where one is currently only stunts growth and retards the pursuit of the ultimate goal of perfection. That being said, I asked a co-worker involved with an area college ministry how they were doing. He instantly gave me the nickel and noses report: about 40 students attend on average. My immediate question was “what do you think about that?” HIs answer? “It’s not bad.” He was satisfied. And if the entire leadership of that particular ministry continues in that mindset, they will continue to reach .13% of the campus population. That’s point-one-three. Thirteen tenths. Not bad.

19 Days and Counting…

Wow. This month is crazy. We are only 19 days away from our first preview service! Here’s some random thoughts…

  • Please pray for us!
  • I’m meeting with Jeremy, manager and owner of Dr. Unk’s Oasis, our Sunday am venue…a bar and nightclub in the heart of downtown Greenville….tomorrow pm. We’re meeting about the details of our arrangement. Hope it goes well, and it’s a win-win situation.
  • I’m meeting with friend, coach, and pastor, Raymond Hoggard, on Thursday am just to catch up, pray for each other, and so he can pour even more wisdom into my life.
  • I’m getting a list of things we need to obtain by January 27th.
  • Putting the finishing touches on our design stuff by then (flyers, postcards, etc.)
  • Waiting for 3/4 our church to get back in town :D.
  • Had a great meeting the other night with Ryan and his wife, Alexis. Great people from Charlotte. Excited that they will be there for our first service!
  • Had a good echo group this past Sunday night…including a familiar-new face. Good to see Sid Davis for the first time in 7+ years.
  • So much to do, so little time.

Life’s a whirlwind.

Amen
