Hardcore Bible Verses
November 28th, 2007
I found this on Digg, and it is actually pretty accurate: The 9 Most Badass Bible Verses | Cracked.com . Excuse the language, I want to keep the author’s intent. Also, I’d like to mention that the story of Benaiah (see Mark Batterson’s book) is neglected, where Benaiah kills a lion in a pit on a snowy day (2 Samuel 23:20). The story of Jonathan and his armor-bearer is also left out (1 Samuel 14). They climb a mountain and take on an entire company of enemy soldiers: with one sword. The armor-bearer is killing people behind him left and right…also bare-handed. But the most hardcore story in the Bible? Revelation 19:11-16 by far. For those of you who know me, this is no surprise to you. But here’s the text:
Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on His head are many crowns, and He has a name written that no one knows but Himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which He is called is the Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
And people wonder why we serve Jesus. He judges and makes war. He’s got fire in His eyes, many crowns, and a name He calls Himself. A nickname for yourself? You know you’re bad then. He looks like a bloodied up boxer, with the robe, and He has a tattoo on His thigh proclaiming Himself as King of kings and Lord of lords. He shows up to the most important battle of all time….wearing white. Like somehow He doesn’t think He’ll get dirty (He doesn’t). And one of my favorite parts? He has a professional trash talker (Revelation 19:17-21)!
Hardcore Jesus reigns.

Wisdom from Richard Baxter
November 25th, 2007
Quoted from The Reformed Pastor:
The ministerial work must be carried on diligently and laboriously, as being of such unspeakable consequence to ourselves and others. We are seeking to uphold the world, to save it from the curse of God, to perfect the creation, to attain the ends of Christ’s death, to save ourselves and others from damnation, to overcome the devil, and demolish his kingdom, to set up the Kingdom of Christ, and to attain and help others to the kingdom of glory. And are these works to be done with a careless mind, or a lazy hand? O see, then that this work be done with all your might!
Puts ministry back into perspective, doesn’t it?
Lesson Learned.

So We Did It Anyway

Here’s the big announcement:
We are launching a new Echo Group downtown Greenville starting in 2 weeks.
It will start at Tipsy Teapot, Tuesdays at 7pm. I’m excited, our people seemed excited, and I know the leaders are excited. We have been growing by 2 to 4 people every weekend, and it’s only a matter of time before the floodgates open. We need to have the infrastructure in place ready for them. Now we do. We will also be starting monthly worship gatherings, beginning in January. I’m stoked. We had a great Echo group tonight, including a Thanksgiving dinner (my first shot at roasting turkey? success!) and awesome worship set from Pablo and Donald. Great stuff tonight, and I’m excited about what Christ is doing among us!
