Leadership Principles On the Fly
Posted in: Teaching, Church PlantingHere’s a few things I’m learning and things that are setting in as concrete as I go here in Greenville, NC:
- Put your faith in Christ, not in people. - I can’t put my trust in people and their commitments. I have to ultimately put your faith in Christ and His commitment: after all, it’s His church, not mine. He will put the necessary people in place: I don’t have to worry about it. (Cemented at a luncheon this past Friday)
- You can’t be David without a Goliath. (Mark Batterson put this into words better than I could) - The major obstacle to Harmony’s upstart right now? Funding. Money. Moolah. Cash flow. Etc. But all we need are some stones and a sling. (Cemented daily.)
- Church planting is really a roller-coaster. - I had heard this prior to beginning. But now, it’s setting in as truth. My emotions are high one day, great things are happening, and then I look at some of our numbers as far as invitations responded to (with regard to our upcoming cookout), and the emotions nosedive. I get great news about a possible location, and then have to deal with the large possibility of not having a worship pastor come January. (Cemented daily)
- John Maxwell is a prophet. - Just started realizing this as I began reading his books today (of course, beginning with the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership). Great stuff. I had always thought he was overrated, though in my youthful passion I had not read him, only heard him speak. Man was I wrong, and I’ve repented already. (Learned today)
- Christ is it. - I’m learning more and more that Christ is the goal. As people are learning and loving, I see them growing in Christ and what it means to be a Christian, and it’s exciting. Real exciting. I love my King. (Cemented increasingly daily)
There you have it. I’m sure a lot more are coming and have come, but my mind is running wild after canoeing today with Miranda’s family!
