What about throwing those names in a blender…
Light Hill Church (LHC)
Hillpoint/ Hill Point Church (HPC)
Grace Hill Church (GHC)
…. good luck
Derek, I cannot tell you how happy I am to see Liquid Church as one of the top 5 name options!! My vote goes to that one. Oh and don’t forget that amazing slogan, “living water for a thirsty generation”
@Maria: Um…I ran out of good ones.
I thought about “Pepperoni Church” instead of Liquid, but Miranda vetoed it, sorry.
liquid’s got a cool factor to it, for sure.
but i think my vote would have to go for pepperoni church…
see derek, dan thinks liquid is a cool name…i would rethink your total opposition to “Liquid Church”
Hello Derek,
I loved reading the thought process you described in coming up with Harmony Church many blogs ago. There are many things I would consider more important in a name than that it is cool. Coolness is temporary, and it could be a liability some day. You also might limit your demographic to youngsters perpetually.
Unless you are planting the church in the next couple of months, you might let the name percolate for a while. Kick them around and see what God comes up with.
I know you know this already, but what could your name say about your church to distinguish it from others in the area? What are your theological / missiological distinctives? Who is your target demographic? As I recall you are in seminary right now so I assume you are in your early 20s, which means you as lead pastor won’t draw a bunch of older folks. But as the church matures, your demographics will change with you.
You could also consider throwing the “community” tag in their also: i.e.: Harmony Community Church or Liquid Community Church. That could help convey belonging and the corporate nature of biblical ecclesiology.
Just make sure that as the Lead Pastor you are comfortable with the name of the church that God has called you to lead. Does it convey what YOU want it to convey? This isn’t being prideful. It is an important decision. You can’t be saying, “I hate this name” under your breath everytime you say, “Welcome to _______ Church.”
Blessings in your ministry brother.
