Wrapping Up Matthew
April 6th, 2007
I’ve been teaching expositorily through the book of Matthew, and we wrap it up in two weeks (resurrection on Easter Sunday, Great Commission the following Sunday). The previous two weeks, however, I split Matthew 27 into two weeks (I’d been going through a chapter a week). We devoted the first week to the physical death of Christ, and the second week (last week) to the spiritual accomplishment on the Cross. The first week was intense. People are still talking about it, telling their friends, etc. I can tell that if we lift Him up, He will bring all people to Himself. We don’t have to focus on series about family, sex, success, money, etc. If we stay focused on the Cross, everything falls into place. Of course, we should still address the “issues”, but only within the boundaries of the Cross and Resurrection.
Enough with the rambling, here’s a couple of resources for you:
The Mayo Clinic Study on the Physical Death of Christ - This is intense. I cried in the middle of Starbucks just reading it.
The Suffering and Death of Jesus Christ - Not quite as intense as above, but still harsh nonetheless.
Hope these are a help and a blessing. Pray this Sunday as I teach Matthew 28, bringing forth the good news of the resurrection.
