A Quote From Drew Goodmanson
Posted in: Church Planting, CultureDrew Goodmanson (link), of Kaleo Church, has an excellent quote on his website right now. He says:
I urge you to go beyond being ‘relevant to our culture’ to seeking to transform the city you live in.
That is, the church shouldn’t be relevant; the church should be redemptive. I urge you to check out the post (here) that talks about transforming cities with the Gospel. And trust me, the Gospel not only transforms cities, but suburbs and rural areas as well. Don’t limit it to urban areas.

Thanks for sharing this quote. I work on staff for Mars Hill Church in Seattle and we have just adopted a new mission statement - “building a city within a city”. Pastor Mark just started preaching on Nehemiah in conjunction with that and its been fantastic. I’m sure you’ve probably also checked out Tim Keller, who has some great things to say about the importance of working within and transforming cities for Jesus.

Thanks for the heads-up, Elisabeth! I’ve been watching Pastor Mark’s series on Nehemiah, and it’s been wonderful. It’s a great extension of his Acts29 resources on the same topic. Tim Keller, of course, is phenomenal as well on the topics. Hope everything is going well in Seattle for you and Mars Hill, and I pray for you guys constantly. God bless.
