I Really Hate the IRS

October 30th, 2006

I am finally starting to get all the economic information together for fundraising in April. It is really um…taxing. Heh. It is really aggravating, and it is definitely not my strong suit. I just wish I could reach into a pond, and pull some coins out of the mouth of a fish. It would be so much easier.

Harmony Church Website Sneak Peek

What do you think? Site should be up in a week or so.

I would thoroughly enjoy sitting down with him, spreading out our ideas on the table as intelligent beings and discussing our conflicting views. I find it very generalizing that Richard Dawkins considers people of faith as basically incapable of thinking for themselves. I would love to converse with Dr. Dawkins concerning this notion of his. For those of you unaware of whom and what I’m talking about, just search on Youtube for it, or look for his talk at TEDtalks. I believe he is a very intelligent man, and I think conversation with him on behalf of the faith community is what he is looking for, not an argument or debate. I plan on reading his books ASAP, after I finish my 250 book wish list. :)

Why?

Yet another week in the NFL, yet another loss for the Eagles. What’s wrong with us? We can’t score, even at home. I don’t know what’s going on. Reid better get his act together, or there’s going to be some people wanting his head at the end of the year.

About Sabbath

October 29th, 2006

Today, I taught partially about the Sabbath. We are going straight through the book of Matthew, and this week we were in chapters 11-12. Within our text there were three different facets of the Sabbath presented:

  • Sabbath Today - (Matthew 11:25-30) - If we take up Jesus’ yoke (His way of life), then we will be given rest from stress of the day-to-day life. This is our daily Sabbath.
  • Sabbath Yesterday - (Matthew 12:1-8) - Jesus, in responding to the Pharisees concerning His harvesting disciples, teaches that the Sabbath not only points to the complete rest that God gives, but points to something greater, seen in the next point.
  • Sabbath Tomorrow - (Matthew 12:9-14) - This next story refers to the coming Sabbath. It is a first mention reference to 1 Kings 13, where Jeroboam’s hand is withered then restored. Christ informs us that in Him, perpetual Sabbath is obtained, providing not only complete rest, but complete restoration. When His Kingdom comes fully in power, it will be perpetual Sabbath, with all creation resting and restored.

We also discussed what this meant for our daily lives, and how we should observe the Sabbath. The point of it all is this: Jesus is the Sabbath, and that in Him we have complete rest and restoration. We, however, take a day to remember this (the Lord’s Day) and look forward to His Second Coming, where the eternal Sabbath begins.
